The film is set between the 1950s and 1970s, with a large-scale 20-acre set replicating that era near Bengaluru. It delves into the murky world of drug cartels, exploring themes of power, morality, and existential dilemmas. The narrative is described as dark and gritty, blending action, drama, and moral conflict.


The film boasts a stellar ensemble cast, including Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria, Achyuth Kumar, and Akshay Oberoi. Notably, this is the first collaboration between Yash and Nayanthara. Yash portrays an enigmatic protagonist navigating power and morality, while Nayanthara plays his strong-willed sister, adding emotional depth to the storyline. Huma Qureshi takes on the role of the antagonist, delivering a powerhouse performance. Tara Sutaria and Shruti Haasan appear in intriguing, undisclosed roles.


 

Toxic is a bilingual film, shot simultaneously in Kannada and English, aiming to provide a truly global cinematic experience. It will also be dubbed in multiple Indian and international languages, including Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam. The decision to film bilingually reflects the filmmakers' commitment to authenticity and a truly international approach. The film's international team includes action sequences choreographed by JJ Perry, renowned for his work in the John Wick and Fast & Furious franchises, and visual effects handled by BAFTA-winning DNEG, known for Dune: Part Two.

   

The film was officially announced in December 2023 under the tentative title Yash 19, as it is the 19th film of Yash as the leading actor. Principal photography commenced in August 2024 in Bengaluru. The cinematography was handled by Rajeev Ravi, and the music for the title announcement was composed by Jeremy Stack. Toxic is scheduled to be released worldwide on 19 March 2026, coinciding with Ugadi.
